A homegrown challenger

Lisan Labs, a two-year-old startup out of Islamabad, has closed a $2.1M seed round led by regional investors to keep building language models trained specifically for Urdu, Sindhi, and Pashto.

Founder Ayesha Raza says the team's benchmark results on Urdu comprehension already beat larger foreign models.

What's next

The funding will go toward a 12-person engineering team in Karachi and a public API launching in early 2027.

Why it matters

Pakistan's AI ecosystem has struggled to attract serious seed funding compared to fintech.
