The test
We gave both assistants the same five prompts: a marketing caption, a legal disclaimer summary, a casual WhatsApp reply, a poem, and a technical explainer -- all in Urdu.
Results
Claude handled formal/legal Urdu more naturally; ChatGPT was faster and slightly better at casual, code-switched Urdu-English.
Verdict
Neither is purpose-built for Urdu the way specialized local models are, but both are usable for everyday freelance work.
